Everyone can manage 5 minutes of music a day!

Everyone can manage 5 minutes of music a (1)

Are you not quite ready for a 20 minute music time? What about 5 minutes of music each day instead?

Here are some suggestions for the next week.  Just pick one idea for each day:

Monday

  • Pick a nursery rhyme the children know well
  • Choose a new simple song to teach the children.  Sing just the first verse to them.  Ask the children to just join in with the missing word at the end of each phrase. e.g. twinkle twinkle little ….. (star)
  • Play a piece of music to the children and ask them to move to the music (choose a different genre each time e.g. pop, folk, classical..)

Tuesday

  • Recap the well known nursery rhyme but put a twist on it.  Ask the children to choose actions or movements to go with the rhyme.
  • Recap new simple song. Sing the first verse to them again.  Ask the children to just join in with the missing word at the end of each phrase. e.g. twinkle twinkle little ….. (star) plus any repetitive words e.g. twinkle twinkle
  • Play a piece of music to the children and ask them to move to the music (choose a different genre each time e.g. pop, folk, classical..)

Wednesday

  • Recap new simple song. Sing the first verse to them again.  The children should hopefully know the first and last line so get them to sing those.  Then teach them the second line.
  • Play a piece of music to the children and ask them to move to the music (choose a different genre each time e.g. pop, folk, classical..)
  • Play a piece of music to the children and ask them to paint or draw a picture whilst listening (choose a different genre each time e.g. pop, folk, classical..)

Thursday

  • Pick a nursery rhyme the children know well
  • Recap new simple song. Sing the first verse to them again.  Get the children to sing the first two and the last line.  Then teach them the third line and sing through the whole rhyme sing those which they have learnt.
  • Play a piece of music to the children and ask them to paint or draw a picture whilst listening (choose a different genre each time e.g. pop, folk, classical..)

Friday

  • Pick a movement nursery rhyme the children know well e.g The grand old duke of York
  • Recap new simple song. Sing the first verse to them again.  Get the children to sing the first three and the last line.  Then teach them the fourth line and sing through the whole rhyme. Play a piece of music to the children and ask them to paint or draw a picture whilst listening (choose a different genre each time e.g. pop, folk, classical..)

The children may take longer than I have suggested above to learn a new verse for a song.  Don’t move onto the next line until you and they are happy with it.  If it takes you longer, that’s fine!

Happy Singing

Anne :)
